Frequently Asked Questions

Why is SCiB™ considered safer than conventional lithium-ion batteries?

Unlike conventional carbon-based anode materials, SCiB™ uses lithium titanium oxide(LTO) in the anode. As a result, lithium deposition, which can cause battery ignition, does not occur in principle, giving SCiB™ a very high level of safety. In addition, if an internal short circuit is forcibly generated by connecting the cathode and anode inside the battery, conventional lithium-ion batteries carry a risk that a large current will flow and the rapid temperature rise will reach the ignition temperature. With SCiB™, however, the characteristics of the anode material make it difficult for current to flow, resulting in a smaller temperature rise and making ignition less likely.
