Industrial Cameras FAQ/What is PixelFormat, PixelCodi...

What is PixelFormat, PixelCoding, and PixelSize?(No.1502)

"PixelFormat" is a value that specifies data format (components of image data such as R, G, B, Y, U, V, order of the components and bit depth of components).

GigE Vision camera uses "PixelFormat" for specifying image type.
In IIDC2 register map that USB3 Vision support, "PixelCoding", that specifies components of image data and order of the components, and "PixelSize", that specifies bit length of a pixel, are used for specifying image type.

BU/DU cameras have "PixelCoding" register and "PixelSize" register for specifying image type but they do not have "PixelFormat" register. Application can read "PixelFormat" value derived from "PixelCoding" and "PixelSize" value, but cannot write "PixelFormat" value directly.

On the other hand, BG cameras don’t have "PixelCoding" and "PixelSize" register, and application cannot read or write these values.

Refer to attached file "FAQV4_2_002_PixelFormats.pdf", in detail.
