Industrial Cameras FAQ/What's "GenAPI" ?

What's "GenAPI" ?(No.1496)

GenAPI is a component of GenICam standard. GenAPI is an applicatiion layer programming interface specifications for controlling features of various physical interface cameras, refering information written in camera description file inside the camera.

GenAPI provides methods for accessing camera registers specifying feature name (called "node name") instead of register address. Register address may differ depending on camera models.
Relation of feature name and ergister address is similar to that of URL and IP address in internet.

Node name is standardized in SFNC(Standard Feature Name Convention), which allows application program to access various models of cameras without revision on program code and re-building.

Register address information, available camera features, valid value range, etc. are described in XML format camera description file inside camera. GenAPI library wil read the camera description file on opening the camera, which allows applications to run application with the latest register address information and the latest feature information.

Our camera instruction manual shows node name in description of camera functions and parameters.
